meet the team
Trevor Burchick MBE has been involved in a range of community activity and networks for over a decade. It began following relocation to Manchester, England, where his new role as Training Manager came complete with responsibility for community affairs, a key part of Unilever's corporate social responsibility programme. This led to extensive networking with many agencies across Greater Manchester and set him off on a new journey. Since then Trevor has worked as a management consultant focusing on people related organisational development issues, project management, manufacturing process improvement and management development training. Trevor is an assessor and internal verifier for the UK's National Vocational Qualification system and a Director of Proud City Co-op, an accredited centre for City & Guilds of London and Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications. He is a joint author of a unique City and Guilds qualification for enabling and rewarding community activity, 'An Individual Profile in Active Citizenship'.
Trevor worked with a national team at the Home Office to develop a national framework for Active Learning for Active Citizenship. As part of his quest to increase active citizenship participation, Trevor is developing an out reach programme with corporate sponsors to enable active citizenship programmes in such as rural areas where there are no funding or support programmes. Trevor has a particular interest in pre-retirement programmes and other applications for the ‘Individual Profile in Active Citizenship’ as a business development tool for City and Guilds accredited centres. Above all he has a firm belief in people and their abilities to do great things.
In 2007 Trevor received the MBE, for services to the communities of Greater Manchester and in addition he was made an honorary member of City and Guilds in recognition for his work with the City and Guilds team over a number of years on the iPAC (An individual Profile in Active Citizenship).
During 2007 Michael James Felse received prestigious honorary membership of the UK's leading vocational, assessing, testing and qualifying body - City & Guilds of London in recognition of his personal contributions to vocational education, training and assessment over many years. Michael is qualified as assessor, verifier and adult trainer, awarded the Social Enterprise Fellowship by the School for Social Entrepreneurs and has been a presenter at Together We Can, Young Lives and Active Citizenship seminars.
Leaving school at 15 his trade became Coal Miner and he challenged the working class system by making his way to technical college evening classes, gaining new skills in Business Studies and winning their Springfield Prize for effective presentation and his outstanding achievement in Health and Safety research.
When the coal mines closed in the 1970s he changed direction to create a quality Information Technology training centre for redundant miners and their families. He developed exceptional abilities for grant applications, including in 1997 securing a million pounds to re-build the community centre in a hard hit Yorkshire mining village. At this time he held responsibility for growinging social enterprise units at the £4million refurbished Mexborough Business Centre.
Michael is pioneering the Future-Builders England investment enterprise based on his personal proven belief that all active citizens are capable of progressing through action learning, mentoring and recognition of their taking part. Miner to Community Champion probably makes Michael the proudest mentor in the UK where he continues to be at the coal face of community empowerment and learning for life, through the roll out of the Individual Profile in Active citizenship.
Bernadette Wright was born and bred in Salford and has lived through much change, including having seen many developments. A responsible, caring and community minded soul, Bernadette was raised in a Coronation Street style house, near the old docks, with four sisters and 2 brothers in a very strong and friendly community environment and describes these early years as some of the best in her life. This same area is now rapidly becoming part of the famous Salford Quays development and soon to be home for the BBC. Bernadette is passionate about her community and its local history and has repeatedly demonstrated a thorough understanding of community cohesion in regeneration.
Following her heart, Bernie established a new social enterprise called LHARA ‘Local History and Regeneration Awareness’, a community engagement process, using digital photography to capture and engage with the regeneration processes locally and with other groups, making her a well known character with many Greater Manchester voluntary organisations. During this period Bernie earned a valued place at the first Regen School in Sheffield, where she found an honest, supportive and inspiring environment that was to enable a re-energised, more confident Bernie. This was followed by a new adventure with the School for Social Entrepreneurs in the North West, which itself opened up new influential networks and a wealth of opportunities and experiences that led to her role in the development of the iPAC ‘Individual Profile in Active Citizenship’. Guided by mentors and with much understanding and learning gained from many experiences, she joined Proud City Co-op to develop the volunteers' network.

She is an NLP Master Business Practitioner and a former group training manager for the John Lewis group and a wide breadth of experience in business adivsory roles. Ann says:
"I’m always surprised when I consider how long I’ve been training people – over 25 years! Some of that time I worked with an Industrial Training Board, some of that time I was the National Training Manager for a chain of department stores and for over 11 years I have run my own company – doing it my way".
"My way is quite simple really ……… to help people progress and learn by taking an active part in their development. It’s no secret that if people have fun whilst doing something (anything) they will get the most from it. So that’s what Arc is all about – take part, have fun and learn!!".
"There is nothing more satisfying than someone revitalising and increasing their skills along with their confidence to use them in the workplace. I enjoy what I do – my specialist areas are the ‘soft’ skills – such as train the trainer, leadership, motivation, delegation. I personally don’t ‘do sums’ nor do I profess to be a legal expert – but I know someone who can! We therefore have a number of quality assured associates who work with us when required. If I can make a difference I will – if I can’t I’ll tell you".
